Anglers making long run to Logan Martin Dam

This morning Steve Bowman and I traveled up stream to Logan Martin Dam. We had reports that several competitors were making the 45 minute run from Beeswax to get here. Sure enough, there are five Opens anglers fishing within 100 yards of the dam. One of them, as you’ll see in the photo, could nearly reach out and touch it.

Alabama Power Company began generating about 7:00 a.m. significantly increasing the water flow. What’s appealing about fishing near a dam? Generating power brings more shad into the river. Which of course makes a nice breakfast for bass, and big birds. In fact there are more birds here than fishermen, which is always a good sign. And that extra current makes it easier to fool the bass.

So far this morning we’ve only seen two fish caught, both small.
