Boating the big ones

Louisiana pro, Derek Hudnall weighed in the biggest bass on Day 1 of the AFTCO Bassmaster Elite Series at St. Johns River. Hudnall wrestled in a 9 pound, 8 ounce beast on a spinning rod in an area he had previously seen the fish in practice.

“To catch a fish that size, a lot has to go right,” said Hudnall. “I just hit a stretch and caught pretty much all my weight in about a 45 minute period.”

It seems inevitable that the fish are wanting to come up to spawn. Being in the right place at the right time will be the key to success on Day 2.

If there was one constant during the Day 1 weigh in, it’s that the anglers wished they had more time to fish. They will have just that on Day 2 of competition as there will be no fog delay.

Expect big weights and huge jumps up the leaderboard on Day 2.
