Derby of extremes

It seems this year’s version of Smallmouthfest on the St. Lawrence will be defined by extremes. We have seen anglers fishing in 40 feet … and others casting in 5. And we watched competitors with spinning rods and light line battle smallmouth, as well as some guys using baitcasters. However, Steve Kennedy, who we are watching now, wins the trophy for the largest lure being thrown today. I have no idea what it is, but most fishermen would probably consider it a musky lure. Seeing that Kennedy has recently vaulted up the leaderboard, it seems his big bait equals big fish concept is working out.
