First fish a stud for Walters

“That’s what I’m talking about, baby!” That is how Patrick Walters celebrated after lipping his first bass of the day. The fight was lengthy. Walters played the fish gingerly, we thought because he hooked the fish on a jerkbait. Come to find out, he was being careful because the fish was a Lake Fork behemoth. “Whooooooooo!” He continued yelling. When the scales settled, the fish landed at 9 pounds, 1 ounce … the second largest of the derby so far. And before his heart rate had a chance to settle, he set the hook again. A quick fight and a 3-pounder flew over the gunnel. Walters already has 12 pounds to his credit and the second flight of anglers are still racing to their first spot.
