Flats and roamers

Cherry said a key to success around marinas is identifying flats along the banks.

“Those fish are just roaming,” he explained. “They’re moving up and down the banks, and then they can go right to the marina and then back to the flat.”

Smith just passed and said it just wasn’t happening on the flats he’s worked today.

“Yesterday you could see them roaming around and chasing bluegill,” Smith said. “They’re gone today.

“It needs to warm up some so they’ll get back up there.”

Cherry said water temps have, indeed, dropped 5 degrees, but he also said it’s not as important to see the bass.

“You don’t need to see them,” he said. “They’re just roaming, so you just need to keep fishing until you run across them.”
