Getting on a buzz

Bill Lowen now has a limit and as Mark Zona and Tommy Sanders noted he is simply enjoying every moment of his Day 3.

Part of the reason is the 5-bass limit in his livewell. With no pressure Lowen can just focus on fun and see where his day ends up.

“The hard part is over and now it’s time to have fun,” he said. “From this point on I’m just blessed to be here. No pressure.”

On a note of irony Lowen has just tied on a buzzbait. That is ironic because Oklahoman Jim Morton won the 1992 Oklahoma Bassmaster Invitational held on Grand Lake on a buzzbait. The tournament was held in November, however the water temperature hovered around the high 40s and low 50s, which is current setting in this final day.

Lowen abandoned his dock fishing pattern with the jig for the buzzbait. Should he begin catching fish on the obscure lure (at least for Classic competitions) it adds yet another retro twist to the bait choices of the pros, including Jason Christie’s choice of a single spin Colorado blade spinnerbait.
