Going Zaldangerous

Chris Zaldain is bringing West Coast logic to the northwest Georgia mountains.

“My game plan is real simple. I’m going to fish like we do out West in deep water with a swimbait,” he told me this morning on the dock.

The choice is a 3-inch Megabass Spark Shad rigged on a ball jig.

“It’s just a downsized version of what we use in California,” he continued.

“It’s all about angles. Working the bait uphill, crashing into the trees, fishing super deep. Just working the contours.”

Zaldain dialed into this pattern during practice.

“I’m fishing the one foot contours, any tight lines that show up on the Humminbird. It’s a late winter pattern and I’m fishing in 60 feet of water.’
