Good bags being caught early at Saginaw Bay

With winds calming down after a breezy final day of practice, teams fishing the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series presented by Bass Pro Shops at Saginaw Bay were allowed to exit the calmer waters of the Saginaw River and enter the big waters of Saginaw Bay for Day 1.

So far, the weights posted on BassTrakk have been impressive. Leading the way unofficially is the team of Clent Blackwood and Bryar Chambers, who upgraded around 12:15 local time to a five bass limit estimated at 22 pounds. Lucas Smith and Dalton Mize are unofficially second with a five fish limit of around 20 pounds.

Minnesota anglers Brian Linder and Nathan Thompson are third currently with a limit estimated to weigh 18 pounds.  The team of Hunter Enlow and Reed Green have bags over 17 pounds posted to BassTrakk while several more teams have recorded solid limits of 10 pounds or better.

With three hours left to fish, there is still a lot of time for movement on the leaderboard. You can catch the Day 1 weigh-in starting at 3 p.m. from the Independence Boat Launch at the USS Edison Battleship on Bassmaster.com.
