Gussy gets early start

This morning at the ramp Jeff Gustafson told me that he “just wanted to make it to Saturday.” There is more than one reason other than what he just did, which is take the BassTrakk lead with 11 pounds, 6 ounces in the livewell.

The true reason why Gussy wants to fish tomorrow is what’s in the forecast. Throughout practice and the tournament, overcast skies prevailed over the lake. Northern smallmouth don’t like cloudy conditions. They do like sunny skies, and that’s what’s in store for Saturday.

On the flip side, largemouth movement is high under the clouds and rain, which explains why the leaders, Buddy Gross included, caught those fish yesterday.

Even so, everyone was surprised with the high weights on Thursday. Will it play out again today? We’ll find out soon enough. After all, this is Lake Champlain.
