Mosley swings for the fence

As a former collegiate baseball player, Brock Mosley knows when to go for a hit or swing for the fence. Today, he did the latter, making the long run, and with it, a gamble, to capitalize on better quality fish than what is found nearer to Orange County and the surrounding area.

BassTrakk shows Mosley solidly in the lead with 14 pounds, 6 ounces, based on the strength of a kicker largemouth in his limit weighing over five pounds. The long run is toward Houston.

Mosley had his limit in just 20 minutes, covering water with a Z-Man Jackhammer Chatterbait, with a Yamamoto Zako for a trailer.

“I favor using the bladed jig to cover more water, quickly, than using a flipping tactic,” he said.

Mosley was still fishing at 12:30 p.m. CT, and a later 4 p.m. check-in time is the reason for the beneficial extended stay.

Tomorrow will be a different story. The forecast calls for a return of the wind, with gusts to 20 mph.

“I’m not coming here tomorrow, and didn’t plan on it,” he said.

Instead, Mosley will stay nearer Orange, choosing to fish the protected waters in the area.

The forecast calls for calmer winds at 5 mph on Saturday, just as they are today.
