Mueller happy with forecast

Tournament leader Paul Mueller has been as consistent as possible the first two days at Neely Henry, weighing 15 pounds, 3 ounces both days. But he did it under less than ideal conditions yesterday, as in, no wind. The forecast for today is double-digit wind from the south. Mueller had to switch from his preferred lure, a crankbait, to a shaky head worm yesterday after losing two bass on a crankbait.

“Any time you’re throwing a plug, you want the wind,” said Mueller, noting bass simply don’t get hooked as solidly throwing a crankbait on calm days. He has found a couple of areas off the bank that he has to himself. “I’m doing what I like to do, and I couldn’t be happier – chunking and winding. I’d rather do that than eat. That’s my all-time favorite thing to do.”

Through two days it’s taken basically 15 pounds a day to lead this tournament and 13 pounds a day to make the top 10. Seth Feider is in 10th place with a total of 25-14, Fishing for the 98-angler field got better at yesterday at Neely Henry: 414  bass and 68 limits were brought to the scales on Day 1; those numbers improved to 454 bass and 76 limits on Day 2.
