Roumbanis facing a long drive

Fred Roumbanis was the last angler to qualify for the Classic Bracket. He didn’t think he’d be fishing here at Carters Lake, that is until Jared Lintner won the Opens Championship on Saturday and opened up another spot. “I was glued to Bassmaster LIVE to see if I’d get in,” he said.

Roumbanis had his boat loaded up with heavy tackle for the Black Bass World Championship in Mexico next week. “I had to quickly reload my boat for the Bracket tournament,” he said.

Roumbanis will be fishing in Mexico as part of the USA Bass team, an effort to make bass fishing into an Olympic sport. Teams from 20 countries will be competing on Lake Chilla. Roumbanis needs to be at the U.S. Mexico border by Sunday evening. That’s a drive of approximately 20 hours from Ellijay, Ga. But first he has business to take care of here. Roumbanis sits in first on Day 1 of the Classic Bracket tournament.
