Update from the water

Andy Crawford is near Coosa Landing, aka the weigh-in and launch site, and shooting a gallery with Jason Christie. Andy said Christie is in water so shallow that “it’s like digging dirt.”

Not far away is Lee Livesay, who yesterday told me he would begin fishing nearby, trying to catch a few fish until Alabama Power begins generating at Weiss or Neely Henry dams later in the afternoon. That narrow window is his best chance of upgrading to a solid limit.

“I’m still in a daze, kind of out of it,” he said.

He’s referring to his Bassmaster Elite Series win on Monday at Lake Chickamauga. BASSTrakk shows Livesay in second place with 7 pounds, 3 ounces. But more importantly, there are 4 keepers in his livewell.

At derbies like this, weight is not so much the goal as is just catching a limit. Here, a limit of bass all weighing between 2 and 3 pounds is golden. If one of those keepers is over 3, pushing 4 pounds, you would be in the lead. Spike Stoker holds down that spot with 7-15.
