You’re going to hear this a lot

It’s easily the No. 1 cliche you’ll hear at the weigh-in after Day 1 of a Bassmaster Classic: “You can’t win the Classic on the first day, but you CAN lose it.” And you might hear it more today than usual.

That’s because on a tough, windy opener at Lake Guntersville several of the pre-tournament favorites stayed alive to fight another day. The best example being what BASSTrakk currently shows as a tie for 27th place, where Scott Canterbury and Chris Zaldain have 11-14. They struggled, but they’re still alive. And that’s all that matters on Day 1 of the Bassmaster Classic.
