I’m a mix of emotions as I write this blog because it’s the last one I’ll do as the reigning Carhartt College Bassmaster Classic qualifier. That’s kind of sad. But on the other hand, I’m really happy about taking my final exam in my statistics class later today to put an end to that less-than-fun academic grind.
Plus, time to prepare for Christmas is running out faster than the final hour of a tournament, which is both exciting and stressful. So I thought I could help by detailing three fishing items that will simplify the shopping process or wish list for all young bass anglers like me.
Let’s start with the simplest, most inexpensive item – a lure – specifically a 1/2-ounce Santone M Series jig in a color called “Ray Bob Special.” I realize jigs are often times one of the most difficult to get really good at fishing, but this jig is also super versatile. You can pitch it into heavy cover, swim it over aquatic vegetation or drag it on the bottom.
Secondly for the Christmas wish list, a rod that’s super high quality, but not super expensive. For less than $120, the G Loomis E6X is a premium quality stick I love, and the 7-foot medium heavy model allows you to fish a ton of different lures ranging from jigs to spinnerbaits and topwater frogs.
Lastly, I’ll warn you, this one is a bit pricey, but it’s my personal favorite of this list. I’m talking about a Carhartt Storm Defender Angler jacket and bibs rainsuit. Top pro anglers will tell you to stop wasting money on cheap and inferior leaky apparel. Instead, buy a top-notch quality Carhartt jacket and bibs to put an end to the misery of being cold and wet while you’re trying to focus on catching the next bass.
