Gear Review: Hobie H-Rail Mini Bin

What is it?

Hobie H-Rail Mini Bin

What sets it apart?

Hobie’s H-Rail opens a world of possibilities when it comes to interesting things to mount on your kayak, and this should probably be your first purchase. With ample space for bags of soft plastics, the real game-changer is the 42-inch retractable tether cord. The cord allows you to attach pliers or anything else to the bin, and never, ever worry about dropping it in the water.

How do I use it?

Just like any other H-Rail accessories, you lock down the two clamps and it just stays put. You can open them to move it along the rail or choose another location, and from there it’s just a matter of how you use it. There are also four different mounting locations on the Mini Bin, so you are sure to find the one that fits your needs. The quick access to the bait you are using and pliers is a godsend once you see it in action. Your phone can slide right into the perfectly-sized Mini Bin as well.

Angler’s insight:

If you’ve spent any time in a kayak, you know that having things both be right there and also completely out of the way is a delicate balance. The Mini Bin solves some logistical problems for you, and I can’t stress enough how handy it is to attach a tool to a tether. The Mini Bin also features raised drain holes, so no matter what you put in there, even in the rain, it’s not going to sit in water. The accessory is well considered by a company that knows quite a bit about what an angler needs when fishing from a kayak, and it shows.
