Gear Review: Savage Gear Pulse Tail Baits

What is it?

Savage Gear Pulse Tail Baits

What sets it apart?

Savage Gear’s Pulse Tail family leverages the common predatory instinct of locating prey through vibration and water displacement. Comprising a bluegill, shiner, mullet and generic “baitfish” models, this diverse group addresses a wide range of common bass forage profiles. Essential to the lifelike performance of each bait is the split rear fin design, which creates a realistic pulse swimming action that replicates the surge exhibited by a fleeing forage fish.

How do I use it?

Savage Gear makes each Pulse Tail model in two primary styles: a Loose Body (LB) with a rapid interchange hook system and a Ready to Fish (RTF) version fitted with a heavy-duty 4X strong EWG hook. The RTF models also include foam integrated rattles and lead harnesses. The Pulse Tail Mullet and Pulse Tail Shiner also offer Line Through (LT) options that allow anglers to add their choice of treble hooks. The Bluegill and Shiner come in six colors with four and five color options for the Mullet and Baitfish, respectively.

Angler’s insight:

I like the lifelike profiles here, but most impressive is that ultra-limber tail design, which does all the work for you. Hold one of these baits, and it’s immediately clear that the Pulse Tail design moves with minimal action. That means a realistic wiggle even on slower retrieves. Pick up the pace and the bait’s gonna kick like a real fish really running for its life. Motion and water displacement trigger strikes, so Savage Gear’s Pulse Tail series looks like a serious bite maker.
