Gear Review: Scosche PowerVolt Dual-Port USB-C Car Charger

WHAT IS IT?

Scosche PowerVolt Dual-Port USB-C Car Charger

WHAT SETS IT APART?

PowerVolt’s Power Delivery technology charges smartphones much faster than regular chargers. For example, a 20W PD charges an iPhone 12 up to four times faster than a standard charger. Smart circuitry constantly communicates with the connected device to deliver the right amount of power throughout the charge cycle. It’s also backwards compatible and can charge older phones. Available for Android and Apple devices.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The PowerVolt PD40 has two 20W USB-C connectors, so you can simultaneously charge two devices. Pair it with a StrikeLine Premium USB-C to Lightning Charge and Sync Cable. The cable is 4 feet long and features an aluminum connector housing and a braided cable sleeve for tangle-free use. This construction can stand up the tough marine environment.

HOW MUCH?

$29.99 (charger)

$24.99 (cable)

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

There’s no more “which way does it go” when plugging the cable into the charger, nor do you need a spaghetti wad of cables for all your different devices. This one does it all, and connections are reversible. That’s why the electronics industry universally adopted USB-C. Everything else is basically obsolete. By now, you might wonder why a charger and cable are in a tackle gear guide. I keep the setup plugged into my boat, with the peace of mind knowing my iPhone or iPad will get quickly and efficiently charged, and another in my vehicle, to be covered on the water and land.
