Gear Review: VMC Hybrid Swimbait Jig

WHAT IS IT?

VMC Hybrid Swimbait Jig

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Billed as the perfect swimbait head, VMC’s Hybrid Swimbait Jig features a sproat style hook with a wider gap to maximize hook sets and a hybrid bend for extra strength. Made from Hi-Carbon Steel with a forged shank, the 1X strong hook has the right size diameter that’s not so thick that it requires a heavy rod. Moreover, it’s not so thin that you’ll worry about it bending out.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Eliminating the hassle of constantly rejigging a swimbait body, VMC included a wide-diameter spring keeper that securely locks soft plastics in place. Also, the Hybrid Swimbait Jig includes a 60-degree line tie, which provides the ideal pulling point to ensure solid hookups and fish retention. The unpainted lead head matches well with a wide range of colors, while the 3D holographic eyes present a fish-taunting stare. Available in 3/16- and 1/4-ounce sizes with a 2/0 hook, 5/16 and 3/8-ounce with a 3/0 and a 1/2-ounce with a 4/0 hook.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

There’s a time and a place for everything and, while hefty hooks pair well with giant swimbaits, the finesse swimbaiting technique requires a more modest — but still capable — terminal tackle. From casting to current seam in the tailrace, to tracing a bluff wall, or anywhere your swimbaiting takes you; VMC has clearly put a significant amount of thought into the design of a swimbait jig that’s both functional and efficient.
