Gear Review: Z-Man Goat

What is it?

Z-Man Goat

What sets it apart?

The Z-Man Goat was introduced into a lineup packed with ElaZtech plastics that offer anglers everything needed to be successful on the water. Now, the Goat expands that lineup even further with a soft plastic that was designed to thump and vibrate at all retrieve speeds. Available in 10 different colors and three fish-catching sizes – 3-inch, 3.75-inch and 4.25-inch – the Z-Man Goat is ready for any application you can throw at it.

How do I use it?

Aside from the obvious uses such as flipping and pitching, the Goat works well as a trailer for basically anything that ever needs a trailer. It excels on a buzzbait as the buoyancy that the ElaZtech provides allows for heavier buzzbaits to be buzzed slower across the surface. The smaller, Baby Goat, works on a finesse jig, as an underspin trailer, a shakey head that’s stands up on the bottom, drop shot and on a Ned rig. The larger two sizes, the Goat and Billy Goat, can be flipped, skipped, pitched, swam or even used as a Carolina rig. The 3.75-inch Goat can be used on anything.

Angler’s insight:

Z-Man took an already successful twin action design and created a bait with a unique curved padded tail. They added a flat and segmented torso with dual-cupped, think-skinned paddles. It takes hardly any effort to create the flapping action. A bait that can be used for so many things is always at the top of the list. Just like the other ElaZtech 10x tough soft baits, the Goat is strong enough to last through dozens of fish catches.
