A tournament every week for Hite

Brett Hite told fans in a Twitter chat that competing all the time keeps him in tune with the fish.

Brett Hite burst onto the Bassmaster Elite Series scene March 13, taking a victory in the first Elite Series event of the season — and of his career.

Hite has competed in B.A.S.S. tournaments since 1998, even at the Tour level, but he elected not to join the Elite Series when it debuted in 2006.

He has since made a living on the FLW Tour, and in 2013, he worked his way through the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens to secure a spot on the Elite Series roster.

So, while HIte’s name is familiar to some fans of the sport, it’s new to others. Fans got to know him a little better in his first Twitter chat today, and the full transcript is below.

Kent R. ‏@F3AR_THE_KNIGHT

What was a key ingredient to helping you win?

Brett Hite

Finding good healthy grass that was close to the bank.

James Hill ‏@JHillFishing

First off I want to say Congratz on the roll you’ve been to start the season on both tours!!!

Brett Hite

Thanks so much, I appreciate all the support!

James Hill ‏@JHillFishing

With so many consecutive majors in a row Do you think it helps you dial it in better…or does fatigue come into play?

Brett Hite

I think it helps you understand the rhythm of the fish. You just keep on rolling. I’d say it’s an advantage.

James Hill ‏@JHillFishing

When can we see Brett Hite with his own account on Twitter?

Brett Hite

I can’t do it all, so I’m not sure I’m really going to be a Twitter guy.

James Hill ‏@JHillFishing

Fair enough Brett! Good luck with the rest of your season!! I’ll be seeing you in Missouri!

Tyson Hofsommer ‏@TysonHphoto

What are the difficulties of being a bass guy, living in Phoenix?

Brett Hite

I drive to the East Coast with my boat at the beginning of the season, then fly home when I get a break.

Tyson Hofsommer ‏@TysonHphoto

What will be the most difficult thing about the Elite Series for you?

Brett Hite

I would say the competition is the difficult thing.

Samuel Davis ‏@sdavisgolf

How do you use electronics to see what type of bottom (rocks, gravel, grass, etc.) you are fishing?

Brett Hite

Grass shows up well, you can tell if it’s more dense or less. On Humminbird electronics, yellow will be more dense. Yellow shows hard bottom, red a little less and blue even less so. Using your color charts helps.

Samuel Davis ‏@sdavisgolf

Thank you!

Bass Fishing Tips ‏@BassFishnTips

If limited to 5 rod/reel combos to fish entire season, what would they be?

Brett Hite

I’d have a flipping stick, jig rod, baitcaster, spinning rod with braid to fluoro, glass rod & a graphite rod.

Bass Fishing Tips ‏@BassFishnTips

If limited to 5 baits to fish entire season, what would they be?

Brett Hite

Drop shot, Senko, ChatterBait, jig and creature bait.

THE Slater Nelson ‏@S_G_Nelson_8

Frogs, buzzbaits, or weightless flukes?

Brett Hite

I prefer a buzzbaits because I have more confidence in them. You have to fish with what you have confidence in.

Dominic F. Turcott! ‏@Dturcott27

Congrats on taking another win on your awesome season so far! How does it feel to be sitting in your seat right now?!

Brett Hite

Life is good! Everything is going well and I’m making good decisions. I’m feeling comfortable with life & fishing.

parker ‏@Park_Fish47

How do northern pike make you feel up north while bass fishing?

Brett Hite

A lot of times when you’re fishing for bass you catch northern pike – you can lose some good baits to them.

Marcus ‏@Marc_850

Brett, how did you decide to become a pro?

Brett Hite

Since I was a kid, it’s all I wanted to do. I fished & watched fishing shows. I set my goal & it came together.

Paul Parlon ‏@PaulParlon

What’s your favorite soft plastic bait in dark water? Lots of mud heavy weeds in mass (when ice melts).

Brett Hite

I like black-and-blue and green pumpkin.

Austin Seibert ‏@Abert43

What color chatterbait would you throw in muddy water conditions? Less than 1 foot visibility.

Brett Hite

I would with either black-and-blue or white and chartreuse in muddy water conditions.

Austin Seibert ‏@Abert43

Thank you!

Andrew Miller ‏@AWAXinKC

Looking ahead to Table Rock…what lure/technique may dominate?

Bassmaster ‏@BASS_nation

Brett Hite

Usually running crankbaits that time of year is dominate on Table Rock.

Kent R. ‏@F3AR_THE_KNIGHT

Dear Brett, could I please have sins tips on tournament fishing? I’m starting soon and my dream is to go pro

Brett Hite

There’s no substitute for time on the water. Get out and find fish on your own, that’s the best way to learn.

Anthony Clayton ‏@AClayton18

I wonder if Brett Hite is excited to see his win on ESPN 2 this weekend?

Brett Hite

I would be if I could actually watch it! But I do have a DVR at home, so I’ll see it in a few weeks. It’s pretty exciting. B.A.S.S. has the best show in all of fishing, so it’s always cool to watch. I learn from it.

Anthony Clayton ‏@AClayton18

Thanks Brett Hite! Hope you get to see the show soon and enjoy it! Maybe go back to the A-Team music for weigh-in?

Brett Hite

I’ll probably switch it up! I’ve been a little busy concentrating on other things! I try not to be superstitious.

will hurney ‏@jenksbeast3b

The the best lure for spring bass?

Brett Hite

It would be a ChatterBait and a Senko!

Kent R. ‏@F3AR_THE_KNIGHT

Dear Brett Hite, if you had 1 Crankbait, 1 soft plastic, and one top water for a whole year what would it be?

Brett Hite

Evergreen Combat Crank 250 in shad, large Yamamoto Flappin Hawg, Evergreen Shower Blow.

Helen Northcutt ‏@HelenNorthcutt

Should I put you on my fantasy team this week, Brett?

Brett Hite

The way things have been going, yes! It’s a matter of getting those big bites.

Jennifer Dome ‏@BHamJen

Do you find it hard to eat healthy & exercise while on the road?

Brett Hite

That’s a struggle we all deal with. For me, I camp so I’m able to cook my meals every night instead of eating out.

Helen Northcutt ‏@HelenNorthcutt

Have you made any good friends on tour yet?!

Brett Hite

I fished the 150 for 5 years, so I’m already friends with all of them. I know three-quarters of the tour.

Kent R. ‏@F3AR_THE_KNIGHT

What is your favorite casting combo for shallower cranks, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, and there is no budget

Brett Hite

I use Evergreen International rods 7 foot, 3 inch powerglass rod and a Shimano Chronarch Ci4+ 6:2.1.

THE Slater Nelson ‏@S_G_Nelson_8

Would you rather rip a spinner bait or a lipless crank through grass

Brett Hite

I would rather rip a lipless crankbait. But I would really rather a chatterbait!

THE Slater Nelson ‏@S_G_Nelson_8

I never even thought about a chatter bait! I guess it’s the same principles?

Brett Hite

Yes, it vibrates very similarly but it’s more weedless.

Bassmaster ‏@BASS_nation
