Mosley and family safe after fire

COLLINSVILLE, Miss. – Elite angler Brock Mosley lost about 25 percent of his fishing tackle early Monday morning when a family barn burned to the ground.

The barn, on his dad’s (Danny Mosley) property in Collinsville, Miss., caught fire around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Brock lives about five miles away and used the barn to store some of his fishing tackle. The barn also housed Danny’s fishing gear; the boat father and son used to fish tournaments together, a 2010 Ranger 198; the family hunting truck, a 2000 Chevy z71 which Danny had purchased new; a zero-turn lawnmower; six sets of tires; and a variety of farming equipment.

Fire officials speculated the fire started in a portable building, wired for electricity, which was inside the barn.

“I’m just thankful no one was hurt,” said Brock. “If it had been two weeks later my new Phoenix would have been in there. But we’ll be fine, we have insurance. I do feel bad for my dad. He lost at least half of his fishing gear, and my dad is a fishing hoarder.”

Brock described the fire as an emotional loss. “All my deer horns were in that barn. The truck was basically part of the family. And we built the boat up from a hull. But dad said God doesn’t put anything on you that you can’t handle, and I suppose that’s true. It does give me perspective on what the people in Tennessee and California dealt with in terms of those fires. When you have a fire, stuff is just gone.”

Mosley had a strong sophomore season on the Bassmaster Elite Series, finishing in 50th place in Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings. Highlights of his season included second place finishes at Michigan’s Lake St. Clair and at the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York. Mosley is one of several Elite anglers who came out of the Bassmaster College program where he fished for Ole Miss.

The Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open on Ross Barnett in March 2018 will be a first for Brock and Danny Mosley.  Danny will fish that event as a co-angler and Brock will fish it as a pro.
