Rivera teaching kids to fish

SCRANTON, Pa. — New Jersey B.A.S.S. Nation member Jose Rivera continues to do his part in developing the next generation of anglers.

Two years ago Rivera worked with B.A.S.S. at the Outdoors NYC event at New York’s Central Park helping teach kids to cast. During this year’s Bassmaster Classic in Texas, Rivera spent three days of the Classic week conducting fishing seminars for kids during the Shell Bassmaster Hooked on Fishing event.

His latest involvement with giving kids fishing instructions was June 10 when he took 13 members of Boy Scouts Troop 61 Old Forge Prince of Peace and some of their family members fishing at a private pond. “I showed them how to cast, how to tie rigs and showed them different baits and all that type of stuff,” said Rivera, a retired corrections officer and owner of www.BassFishingMedia.com.

The Loaded Livewells Bass Club member enjoyed the four hours he spent with the scouts. “It was a real fun time,” he said. “I would definitely do it again with them.”

The scouts received products from Rivera donated by Angie Thompson of B.A.S.S. (Bassmaster caps, magazines and playing cards), South Bend Fishing (rod and reel combos and tackle boxes), Trapper Tackle (hooks) and Bass Snax Custom Baits (a variety of baits).
