College: Eastern Tour registration

Registration for the 2018 Carhartt College Eastern Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops began on Wednesday at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. More than 300 college anglers from more than 100 colleges and universities from around the U.S. signed up to compete in the third of four regular-season college events scheduled this year. Leading duos will compete in the College Series National Championship to be held July 19-21 in Oklahoma.

But to reach the championship, teams will need a good showing here on Lake Cherokee. They surely will look good doing it, as the tour’s many sponsors showed up in force with more swag than you can shake a fishing rod at, for sure. The stunning Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located just east of Jefferson City. This banner beckons anglers to the “Lakeside” of the mountains, where anglers in this tournament will compete through Saturday. Douglas Lake is another popular spot for big-time bass anglers, but Cherokee will be the fishery for this event.

When the anglers are finished registering, some of them headed out for some R and R. They all had to return for 5 p.m., however, for the pre-tournament meeting.

There’s Bethel University’s John Garrett who won the college series in 2016 and earned a chance to fish in the GEICO Bassmaster Classic. The winner of this year’s Carhartt College Eastern Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops will been in good position to do the same thing.
