“The rod is a Winch model, which is built for running baits with treble hooks,” he said. “It’s strong enough for rigorous hooksets, but provides a slight delay so you don’t rip hooks out of the fish’s mouth.”

Lucas uses a “Crazy Alberto knot,” which is a solid line-to-line knot. He said the reason for a leader is due to the extremely clear water in Chatuge. The invisibility of the fluorocarbon line reduces the number of fish that spook away from his offering.

Being able to pick up line quickly to make a solid hookset is a serious consideration. The STX gets the nod from me.”
