Combs fishing deep

Carters Lake is the deepest lake in the state of Georgia at 450 feet. Some sources list it as the deepest lake east of the Mississippi. Still, I was surprised to see Keith Combs with a spinning reel in his hand, drop shotting. The tall Texan is known for throwing big crankbaits. But you need to be versatile to compete in the Elite Series. “I caught one in 90 feet of water in practice,” he told us. Combs has a 1 pound 6 ounce bass in his livewell already today.

Steve Bowman and I are off to check on the rest of the field.
