Current observations

Andy Crawford is shooting a photo gallery of current Bassmaster Angler of the Year leader Seth Feider. He’s got three bass in the livewell.

Feider is using a white swim jig, which he is casting to Coosa grassbeds growing on shorelines gradually tapering into the river channel. the bottom creates a current break and ambush point, while the grass provides concealment from the baitfish.

Boat positioning is key. I noticed this while shooting an aerial gallery on Wednesday. There are two sections of current. The strongest is in the main river channel, where boat control is nearly impossible. Nearer the bank the current is slower, and enables better boat control.

Andy observed most of the boats around Feider are doing the same thing, which is fish current eddies and seams where the bass are seeking calmer water nearest the channel.
