Elite Series tiebreaker explained

There are often ties in Bassmaster Angler of the Year points at the end of the season. The Bassmaster Elite Series has an interesting system for breaking those ties. Total weights caught on full field days (Days 1 and 2) of each tournament are compiled throughout the season. At the completion of Day 2 yesterday on Lake Fork, the tiebreaker totals for the season are set.

Remember, these numbers don’t come into play unless there is an AOY points tie. For instance, Clark Wendlandt caught 284 pounds, 15 ounces over the first two days of the nine Elite Series tournaments this season. He would win a tiebreaker with either Jake Whitaker (278-3) or David Mullins (271-12), if that were to happen today.

Just for kicks, here’s a list of the top 10 two-day/full field weights for the 2020 Elite Series season: 1) Patrick Walters, 293-10; 2) Clark Wendlandt, 284-15; 3) Jake Whitaker, 278-3; 4) John Cox, 275-15; 5) Brandon Palaniuk, 275-0; 6) David Mullins, 271-12; 7) Steve Kennedy, 270-12; 8) Kyle Welcher, 270-8; 9) Stetson Blaylock, 269-9; 10) Buddy Gross, 268-6.
