Smallmouth is Pirch’s first

Fifteen minutes after Avena picked up his Power-Poles and left, Pirch hooked up for the fourth time. The previous three were a carp and two short bass, but this one was the right kind — a smallmouth with shoulders. It met the minimum length and went in the box. His patience may pay off yet.

Apparently it did because before I could hit “send” on this blog he hooked up again with another livewell-worthy bass. We are staring straight into the sun but the second one appeared to be a chunky largemouth.

He is throwing a bait that is a little bit out of the ordinary, but I can’t say more about that until tomorrow.
