Clark Wendlandt just landed his fifth fish, a 3-14, to give him 13-7 on the day which moved him to 13th place.
The Texas pro, who lost his AOY lead after Chickamauga Lake, regained the top spot with his 18th-place standing after Day 1 at Fork. He had 690 points.
Wendlandt started the Lake Fork event third, 16 points behind leader David Mullins and 11 back of second-place Austin Felix. Mullins started 42rd in the event to fall to 681 points, while Felix was 42nd with 677 points.
Both Mullins and Felix are in jeopardy of missing the top 40 cut, leaving the door open for Wendlandt to add a B.A.S.S. AOY title to his three FLW AOY titles.
Barring big rallies from Mullins or Felix, Wendlandt would need to finish 13 ahead of Jake Whitaker and 15 above Kyle Welcher in the Fork derby to win the AOY title. Both have headroom. Whitaker was 32nd after Day 1 and Welcher 37th — Whitaker has gained 8 points on Day 2 so far but Welcher has fallen.
The results are not final until the anglers submit their signed scorecards and cross the weigh-in stage.
