Gear Review: Old Town Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota

What is it?

Old Town Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota

What sets it apart?

Taking the fishing kayak to an entirely new level, Old Town has introduced an easy-to-use motorized fishing platform powered by Minn Kota that is loaded with premium features enabling maximum fishing time without hassle or clutter. The low-profile, saltwater-ready, 45-pound thrust Minn Kota trolling motor is ultra-responsive featuring forward and reverse.

How do I use it?

Thanks to a hand-controlled, boat-style throttle handle, it can be maneuvered just about anywhere. The boat features four built-in accessory tracks, non-slip padded EVA foam decking for comfortable stand-up fishing, a shallow-water anchor mount, new XL rudder design for improved boat control in forward and reverse, a safety kill-switch key that doubles as a prop wrench — plus so much more. With a usable capacity of 390 pounds, the boat measures 10 feet, 6 inches and 37 inches wide. Just the hull weighs 75 pounds (not including the trolling motor or 12-volt lead acid or lithium batteries) which makes hand-loading onto a pickup or car top easy. Available in two eye-catching colors.

Anglers Insight:

Just when you thought fishing kayaks couldn’t get any cooler, Old Town went and raised the bar. Not only is this rig fully motorized, and with all-day power, it’s basically hands-free and highly manuverable. The two foot pedals allow for steering with the feet, making it simple to place accurate casts in those hard-to-reach spots. With countless enhancements to the entire fleet of Old Town Sportsman boats, there is certainly one that is right for you and your favorite bass lake. I could go on and on; just try one out and you’ll be sold.
