Gear Review: Shimano Nasci FC Spinning Reel

WHAT IS IT?

Shimano Nasci FC Spinning Reel

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Shimano’s newly redesigned Nasci FC line includes six spinning reels in sizes 500 to C5000. Each feature SilentDrive technology, which leverages high-precision, micron-level tolerances for each drive train component to reduce wobble, noise and vibration for smooth, quiet reeling. The 2500-series Nasci is a general-purpose reel fit for bass and other freshwater applications, while the C3000-series Nasci has a deeper-cut spool for more line capacity, with the same body size and weight as the 2500.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Nasci FC reels incorporate the Shimano HAGANE Gear, a cold-forged aluminum drive gear made with an exclusive three-dimensional design process that eliminates cutting work on this gear and yields superior durability over die-cast or machined constructions. The 1000 to C5000 models include the X-Ship system, which supports the pinion gear with bearings on both ends to maintain precise alignment of the pinion gear with the drive gear. For longevity, CoreProtect’s enhanced water resistance protects the roller clutch, body and line roller against water intrusion.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Shimano added a cool feature called Propulsion Line Management System that should improve casting for all users. The reel’s spool is made with an angled, upper lip that dramatically reduces friction with the line during the cast. This allows for longer casting distance, while reducing backlashes and wind knots. Considering comfort, Shimano includes the G Free Body feature, which shifts the center of gravity closer to the angler’s hand position to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
