Gear Review: Shimano World Minnow

WHAT IS IT?

Shimano World Minnow

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Shimano created a pair of suspending jerkbaits, the World Minnow and World Diver, which elevate this tantalizing technique with three exclusive technologies designed to improve the bait’s function and appearance. Most noticeable is Flash Boost, which suspends a highly polished, reflective foil on micro springs within a hollow chamber in the lures body. With even the slightest motion, the foil shimmers and sends reflected flashes through the water. When the bait comes to rest, the foil continues its attention-getting reflections.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Shimano’s new baits also include Jet Boost, a spring-loaded weight transfer system that maximizes casting distance by allowing an internal weight to slide to the bait’s tail on the back cast, but then returns the weight to its original position for optimal balance and swimming motion. Additionally, Scale Boost comprises a technology-infused, biomimetic pattern that mimics the realistic patterns of baitfish scales through a composite-pitch hologram built directly into the bait. The three-hook World Minnow and the two-hook World Diver reach 4 to 6 feet and 6 to 8, respectively.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Shimano does more than wrap a decent bait in nice colors; the company has designed a well-crafted lure with real tools to fool savvy fish. One of the biggest elements of fooling wary fish is distance, so that Jet Boost feature should prove invaluable for launching the bait. On the visual side, the Flash Boost creation provides the unique ability to continue an active display even with the bait at rest. This mimics the constant flicker of shad, as their scales reflect light due to their movement, as well as the sun’s rays dancing through surface ripple.
