Gear Review: Wiley X Compass

What is it?

Wiley X Compass

What sets it apart?

The new WX COMPASS is the result of the Wiley X commitment to high-performance fashionable eyewear that provides the highest level of protection, durability and optical clarity. Winner of the 2019 Best New Eyewear in the New Product Awards at the 2019 European Fishing Tackle Trade Show (EFTTEX), the WX Compass features a unique high-wrap, half-frame style equipped with a Removable Facial Cavity Seal. This design blocks wind, dust, debris and peripheral light from invading into the wearer’s sight while boosting color contrast and high visual definition.

How do I use it?

The WX Compass is made with Shatterproof Selenite polycarbonate polarized lenses designed and tested to meet stringent ANSI Z87.1 and EN standards, which help ensure that personal eye and face protection devices keep the wearer safe from impact, non-ionizing radiation, and liquid splash exposures. All Wiley X adult sunwear models are certified as protective eyewear and all of the company’s models meet or exceed standards for fishing industry uses — key point, as it’s not uncommon for anglers to find hooks, weights and heavy lures flying toward their eyes.

How much?

$150

Angler’s insight:

The Wiley X story is pretty cool. Briefly, the family-owned company founded by a veteran has focused on delivering what it terms Absolute Premium Protection for over 30 years. Consumers have to make their own choices, but Wiley X has a pretty solid set of references as a provider of protective eyewear to military units and law enforcement personnel globally, including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and D.E.A., as well as many European forces.
