Gianni Rizzo, a 36-year-old B.A.S.S. Nation angler from Italy, was killed Monday, June 6, 2020, by a lightning strike, according to Il Messaggero.
Lightning struck the bass boat while Rizzo fished on Lake Golsena. Rizzo was fishing with a friend at the time, but the other angler was unharmed though “greatly shaken” by the lightning.
According to the article, the two were busy fishing on the boat and filming with a video camera.
Rizzo, from the province of Veneto, was a longtime B.A.S.S. member, a former Nation president and a B.A.S.S. Nation Championship contender in 2014. Rizzo represented Italy in the Nation Championship tournament.
