K-State team hosting big bass fundraiser

The Kansas State fishing team’s Big Bass Bash Fundraiser allows up to three contestants per boat to fish for cash and prizes.

Manhattan, Kan. — Big bass will be the target for competitors fishing in the Kansas State University fishing team’s annual fundraiser tournament this year.

The Kansas State team will host its 2018 Big Bass Bash Fundraiser April 28 on Perry Reservoir. Club President Travis Blenn said the team has been holding an annual fundraiser tournament for several years, but last year was the first time it held an event with a big bass bash format. The inaugural Big Bass Bash at Lake Melvern drew 40 boats.

“It has just been better for people,” Blenn said of the format change. “They are not worried about getting a five-fish limit and they can have three people in a boat. It is just a more friendly environment and more laid-back and that is what we were kind of hoping for.” The tournament is open to all anglers except members of the Kansas State bass fishing team. Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or adult.

The event will feature a $1,000 guaranteed big bass payout and $2,000 will be paid out in cash and prizes (based on a 50-boat field). The tournament will pay out for the top three bass weighed in during four weigh-in periods: 7-9 a.m., 9-11 a.m., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. Each angler can weigh in one fish per period for all four periods.
