Mizzou holding fundraiser tournament

The Mizzou Bass Team will hold an open buddy tournament April 6 at Lake of the Ozarks to raise funds for the University of Missouri’s bass fishing club.

Osage Beach, Mo. — The Mizzou Bass Team is inviting all anglers to compete in the first Mizzou Bass Fishing Fundraiser April 6 at Lake of the Ozarks.

The tournament will be hosted by Bassing Bob, a Lake of the Ozarks fishing resource website, and will raise funds for the University of Missouri’s bass fishing team. “We always have been involved with Bassing Bob, and I got to talking to Bob (Bueltmann, owner of Bassing Bob) and Ben Verhoef, one of the guys who works with him, about how we can make a little bit more money,” Mizzou Bass Team President Dave Goddard said. Verhoef is a former president of the Mizzou Bass Team.

Bueltmann suggested the team could hold a fundraiser tournament at the Lake of the Ozarks, and he would host the event. The team also plans on raising funds by placing a donation can at the Bassing Bob booth where Bueltmann’s staff and Mizzou Bass Team members will serve coffee and donuts before the takeoffs of various tournaments at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The fundraiser has been set as an open buddy event with an entry fee of $100 per boat and a 70 percent payback. Goddard said proceeds from the tournament will help fund travel expenses to send teams to Carhartt Bassmaster College Series events and the FLW College National Championship.

The Mizzou team plans on competing in Carhartt Bassmaster College Series tournaments at Bull Shoals in April and on the St. Lawrence River in June. “We are super looking forward to the tournament at Bull Shoals,” Goddard said. “For sure we have seven guys going and we want to get 20 guys, which will be 10 teams.” The team president said they are also excited about fishing “up north” for a chance to catch smallmouth at the St. Lawrence River.
