When I was a kid, I couldn't wait for summer. It was the best time of the year. School was out and I could go fishing with my dad and friends. It was great.Now that I'm just a little older (nearly 46), summer doesn't mean quite as much to me.
Old Hickory Lake's 22,500 acres impounded on the Cumberland River will be where the 107 Elites Series anglers compete for the $100,000 first-place check.
One Bassmaster Elite Series angler summed up the fishing conditions at Old Hickory Lake this way: "You might catch 40 fish and zero."
On his run up the river in the morning he noticed a boat stuck in the shallows, so he pulled over to help. "It delayed 30 minutes off our time but it was my nephew (Tim Carmouche) so I had to stop and push him off," said Bourque.
A quick look at BASS' history on the lake reads like a Cliff's Notes version of the sport — short and sweet.
"It being right there near Nashville it gets a lot of pressure," VanDam said. "For four days — you're going to see some big limits there, but it's going to be hard to catch 20-plus-pound bags every day."
