The Good Ol’ Days Are Ahead Of Us

I have always been a fishing junkie. For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with anything to do with fishing. I fished my first derby when 5 years old.

The Catch And Release Attitude

Bass fishing back in 1967 was more enjoyable than it is today because there was less boat traffic, and a lot fewer fishermen. I think the bass were bigger, and there were more of them.

Spotlight On Bluebacks

Alton Jones has won well over a half-million dollars on lakes that contain blueback herring as the dominant forage for bass. Yet Jones doesn't care to compete on anymore blueback herring lakes anytime soon.

A Veteran BASS Member

I spent the early part of my life in the U.S. Navy (1942-1948) then switched to the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1967 with 24 years of active duty. I was on the USS Hornet (CV-8), of Doolittle Raid fame, when she was sunk Oct. 26, 1942. I was rescued by the USS Barton (DD599) and was on her when she got sunk 17 days later, Nov. 12, 1942. I later was assigned to the USS Bland, and we made four major amphibious landings in the South Pacific (and I never learned to swim).

Roland Martin Wins 3 in a Row

In the annals of BASS competition a few accomplishments stand out. Roland Martin's 9 Angler of the Year titles, Rick Clunn's 4 Bassmaster Classic championships and Bryan Kerchal's Classic win coming out of the BASS Federation Nation quickly come to mind.

Wide open

Even Fred Roumbanis, who goes into Sunday with a 6 pound, 15 ounce lead on 12th place Ish Monroe, said the final of the Carolina Clash presented by Evan Williams is wide open.
